HIGH RISE FOR DHARAVI SLUMDWELLERS
T hese three towers built by Mhada as a pilot project in Dharavi's sector 5 will accommodate 358 families when completed next April. Mhada will verify eligibility of slum dwellers in this sector before allotting them the tenements (280 sq ft carpet each), which are fitted with vitrified tiles, wide common corridors, lifts, welfare centre and balwadi. Each building will be 18-storey high, but further construction permission is awaited from the civil aviation authority. Mhada plans to build 9,200 tenements in high rise buildings on the 64 hectare sector 5.
