‘Revert to premium for Mhada or face gherao’
Mumbai: Shiv Sena CEO Uddhav Thackeray
threatened to gherao Mantralaya and the residences of ministers if CM Prithviraj Chavan, in the meeting convened on Thursday, does not withdraw the decision of builders having to give flats to Mhada instead of a premium as the agency's share for redeveloping colonies. At a protest outside Mhada headquarters in Bandra, Thackeray said, "It is below Sena's dignity to plead with the incompetent Congress and NCP." Over 5,000 Sena workers were present.
"Sena's rally supportedbuilders. We oppose the demand. I have urged the CM to ensure that Mhada undertakes the redevelopment of its buildings and not private developers," Nirupam said.
Satish Gavai, Mhada vice-president, said the government is clear that they require flats and not premium for permitting redevelopment.
